Re: [ Sat 25th Oct ] v Holbeach United, KO 3pm UCLP HOME
I think we proved a big point today - that we're convincingly better than Holbeach, and that's a great confidence boost for us that we can use to push us on. We got behind them down the flanks no end of times, especially in the first half, were better organised than them and had more heart for the battle. Their side, only able to create sporadic chances and never putting us under sustained pressure, spent a great deal of time shouting at each other and, determined to unleash their collective anger, they had to end the match by starting a fight.
Their No 6 Danny Spencer I believe (who I thought was one of their best players on the day) grabbed the loose ball in our bench's technical area, preventing us from taking our throw-in quickly, to which we were entitled (ala Huntingdon v Sleaford last season). As the melee ensued, both Holbeach managers (whose behaviour in attempting to instigate trouble all match was a disgrace to their club and the UCL) walked on to the other side of the pitch in order to physically confront one of our players, Ashton I believe. Considering one of their managers, Drury, received a red card last week, even I was surprised at his lack of self-control.
With their clear lack of discipline, especially on the bench, I can see them dropping a lot more points this season. The smarter, more professional club will win the race and, on today's display, that's definitely us. Well done to the lads, they all worked hard and deserved more, but they should take plenty of confidence from how we dominated the match.

Ah yes, of course. Well we built up a good head of steam before entering this game and really should've won, so hopefully we can start that momentum against for Huntingdon when we play them in the New Year. Sleaford beat Cogenhoe today, but does that just mean Cogenhoe aren't very good either? I think we'll win easily, possibly the same as Kempston was.Formic wrote:Don't forget Huntingdon!Bob's Bitch wrote:TBF that was a great game and worthy of the larger crowd, up there with Eynesbury and Oadby home games. Disappointing that we couldn't take one of the four/five chances we had, especially in the second half but we're top with a game in hand, that's pretty good as well!
BTW mention for Finlay, a couple of fantastic saves, especially the one late on, which would've been a total heartbreaker had we conceded. Oh and Gyasi, who deserves to now start ahead of ELJ, even though he was apparently injured. He was really dangerous and really ran at his full-back.

Drury's like an annoying dog, always running around making a noise but running away as soon as someone comes near him.
In the past we've been too quiet in things like this but today we proved that if you want to come to our place and play nasty you better be able to back your words up with actions. Holbeach didn't

I really enjoyed that, great advert for UCL football I thought, definitely 2 points dropped by us though, clear cut chances at both ends, but we had the better ones overall and should have won. Interesting how people see games, I thought Gyasi was brilliant this afternoon, positive when in possession and worked hard to defend when we weren't - he was my mom personally.
We still haven't managed to beat one of the top sides at home though, but missed out by the narrowest of margins today - perhaps we're saving that one for when Huntingdon come along eh? ;)
729 people were well entertained this afternoon and hopefully many of them will be back - including Max and Stephen !!

Yes Max Griggs was there. Good to see him at a game at last, I hope he enjoyed it.
Decision not to start Turner has really not helped us today. Not going to say it cost us the win, but to leave a player in his form on the bench until the 80th minute was questionable to say the least, particularly with how the game was going. It's got to go down as 2 points dropped given the chances created.
Harris MOM for me, their winger got absolutely no change out of him. Bunting produced the sort of performance we haven't seen enough from him, and Gyasi did extremely well although he's a little unconvincing with the ball at his feet - I wonder if even he knows what way his legs are going at times but it seems to work.
I saw enough today to think that A.) we're a lot better than Holbeach, and B.) teams are going to take points off them regularly. What they are is an experienced side and there aren't many of them in the UCL. For me, not enough attacking conviction to really threaten come the end of the season.
Interested to see how Huntingdon get on now. It's about time they played somebody half decent. Away games at Kempston, Deeping and a resurgent PNS for them in November.

Agreed Turner should have started with Josephs pace to come on later in the game.
Re: [ Sat 25th Oct ] v Holbeach United, KO 3pm UCLP HOME
Holbeach were very disappointing - not a patch on last season's Spalding, Huntingdon or Deeping Rangers sides.
There were several good candidates for MoM today - Confue was joined by Ashton, Finlay and Gyasi as well as Richard Bunting who had by far his best game this season today. Brad Harris deserves a special mention too given he was playing out of position.
Once we've faced the likes of Huntingdon and Wisbech we'll know how serious our title challenge might be, but I'm certainly encouraged by today's performance.

Bit of a disappointing afternoon from my point of view, mainly because it feels like we lost the game rather than gain a point. I feel the lads had much more possession, more chances and more fire to win the game. Some good performances today, but my man of match has to be Brad Harris who is by far my favourite player on the pitch, week after week he puts in a shift!!!
Obviously peaksy makes the choices, but I was a bit confused as to why only one sub was made, I think I would of put Joseph on the last 15 mins and took dunks off aswell, but that's my opinion.
I was surprised that number 6 only escaped with a yellow. Terrible behaviour which took the gloss of what was a very entertaining game on a whole. Although what was poor was during the continuing argument with our fans on the side, he felt low enough to make a sly comment on the blokes Mrs??
Anyways we move on to next Saturday and keep the performance going to keep the pressure on!!
Now here is another discussion. Does dolman scare anyone else or is it just me? He's a strong player, not bad in the air, but one on one, ball control and long balls over the top sometimes I can't look. Wasn't he also booked at hendon for similar, tugging back? Had he not of been lucky, his air kick today could of been costly. On another note Brad and jack Ashton was superb today!!

Also a mention for Dunks, I know he should've scored that header but he works so hard and holds up the ball whilst getting dragged and pulled about by every opponent for the ball.
Also I'm pretty sure we played fewer than 40 minutes for the second half! I think the players only came back out at 16.03 and there were a few stoppages as well.

The referee bottled it at the end of the 2nd Half I think, that's why we didn't play the full 45!Bob's Bitch wrote:Also a mention for Dunks, I know he should've scored that header but he works so hard and holds up the ball whilst getting dragged and pulled about by every opponent for the ball.
