FA Cup opponents
The draw will take place tomorrow, so who would we want to play. All Step 3 clubs are in the draw. Its a shame no local UCL or Step 4s left except Daventry so I go for them at Hayden Road. It would be nice to at least get a home draw.

Re: FA Cup opponents
Away to a Step 6 or Step 5 side would be my personal preference, and ideally a ground we haven’t visited before.
I saw a ‘Cupset’ yesterday at Mildenhall Town, as they beat Corby. Corby led until the 90th minute when Mildenhall equalised with a penalty, and then they proceeded to win the match on penalties soon after. Former Diamonds trialist James Hall scored both the equalising penalty in normal time and the winning penalty in the shootout.
Lots of familiar faces in the Corby ranks - Gary Mulligan, Callum Westwood, Greg Ling and Elliot Sandy.

Not sure how many Step5 and 6 there are still in the draw. 160 teams join Step 3 teams of which most will be Step 4.

Usually we get teams in the central belt but last season we went south to London. Being a Tuesday evening ko we don't really want to travel, so let's have that home tie at last.sussexdiamond wrote: Sun Sep 13, 2020 1:34 pm Not sure how many Step5 and 6 there are still in the draw. 160 teams join Step 3 teams of which most will be Step 4.

Re: FA Cup opponents
FA Cup debutants, they’re a well-supported Step 5 side on an upward curve formerly known as Newark Flowserve. Guessing the Flowserve part was some sort of sponsorship agreement.
Won both of their previous games 4-0 in the competition this season. No reason we shouldn’t be able to get through fairly comfortably but I don’t think it’ll be as straightforward as it might have been for a home tie against a side two levels below.
Some players we may recognise include Craig Westcarr and Nathan Stainfield, who was the Spalding captain (tall blonde central defender) for a few years when we were regularly battling them.

Re: FA Cup opponents
Westcarr has played for Poppies and I am pretty sure Stainfield was Spaldings wonder kid who was going on to great things, I think he got sent off in one of our games.

I think Craig Westcarr went form Poppies to Notts County for a few years, he may be getting on now but he will have to be watched

Re: FA Cup opponents
Stainfield walked for a foul quite early on Matt Gearing I think. Richard Bunting scored the resulting penalty (might have been the other way round).sussexdiamond wrote: Mon Sep 14, 2020 2:08 pm Westcarr has played for Poppies and I am pretty sure Stainfield was Spaldings wonder kid who was going on to great things, I think he got sent off in one of our games.
