I notice Kern Miller is back at Spalding. It seems Drury is having his usual mid-season clearout at Stamford after realising they are destined to a season of mediocrity under his leadership.

I notice that Leon Mettam has also joined Spalding from King's Lynn. Maybe both these two recruits are Cup tied?

I doubt Mettam would be, as Kings Lynn are in the Southern League these days.

Of course. I still think of them as a 'Northern' outfit on the amount of time they spent in the NPL. Mettam is a very decent player, Corby, Gainsborough etc. Was on a 2 year contract at Lynn but I guess he will be given a runout on Tuesday evening.

How's the pitch looking? It was looking heavy on Saturday and with rain falling most of yesterday and more forecast for Wellingborough overnight must be in doubt. Heavy rain is forecast from around kick off as well.

A really exciting game tonight. Spalding fielded the same X1 as Saturday we started with only Dolman, Harris and Farrell from Saturday.

Not surprisingly Spalding had the best chances in first half and but for poor finishing and some great saves from Ben Heath would have gone in with a comfortable lead! The second half was almost a complete reversal, Diamonds had several good efforts, mainly from Taylor and Spalding only threatened on the counter.

Good shoot out...all Diamonds players scored . Ben Heath saved Spaldings 6th and that man Newman fired home the winner

Well we March on in the league cup after some great pens. A draw was the right result, spalding the better team in the first half, afc in the second. Tough to play a decent game on a wet and boggy pitch, especially in the middle but Ben farrell put in a really good tireless performance. Ben ford did well at left back in the first half and Brownhills looked dangerous when introduced. With all the teams left in the competition some distance away, we'll be praying again for a home draw.

If it is still regionalized then we will probably play Grantham which is not too far.
Basford won last night so would probably be in our half of the draw, and would likely play Newcastle or Buxton

In the Northern half of draw,
Scarborough won 2-1 tonight.

Other 3rd round ties to be decided on 14th Feb
Ashton v Farsley
Bamber Bridge v Glossop NE
Clitheroe v Trafford

So currently 12 teams left in competition.
Three from the Premier Division, Grantham into last eight. Buxton and Ashton still to play
Three from South, Diamonds and Basford with Newcastle yet to play
Six from North, only Scarborough into last eight
