Huntingdon v Yaxley (Wed)
According to Twitter there is a chance this could get switched to Yaxley if it gets called off tomorrow evening - sounds like Huntingdon are having some real problems with their pitch. A nice 0-0 would do nicely please

With more pitch problems for Huntingdon - and Wisbech last night - it could be interesting to see what leeway the UCL might provide some teams in the second half of the season. The heart of winter is still to come so I can only imagine their fixture congestion will get even worse. Come the end of February, we could be about 10 games ahead of some title rivals. Just goes to show the good work the ground staff do at the Dog & Duck - a pitch that will suffer like all the rest at this level in the depths of winter but has served two clubs very well in the damp autumn.

In our 1st season with The Vase and the bad weather we had only played 12 league games by Christmas and went to Spencer on the designated final day, Huntingdon are on 12 already and some teams as high as 20 with 3 Saturdays to go though it is a 40 game season not 36. 22 Saturdays between now and May 1st so shouldn`t be any problems, best we just keep winning games and build up such a big gap it matters not how long some teams season goes on they can`t bridge it.paulg wrote:With more pitch problems for Huntingdon - and Wisbech last night - it could be interesting to see what leeway the UCL might provide some teams in the second half of the season. Let's hope if it does get close the UCL see sense (unlikely I know) and defer all potential deciding games until the same day.
If not then we may need to have a few tactical call offs to preserve the level playing field

RIncidene: Huntingdon v Yaxley (Wed)
Last season Spalding played most of their main rivals after they had won the league. Depriving everyone of an exciting finish and meaningful "top of the table" clashes.
Whilst that would be nice if we are in that position, I don't think it would help attendances very much.
I hope tonights game does go ahead as there will be points dropped by one or both of them.

A draw would be the perfect result, both teams dropping points,
Big game on Saturday, no slip up 3 points in the bag to extend are lead.

We have 22 'big games' left in the league this season. Each one is worth 3 points and are 'must win games'. Oh and they are all potential 'banana skins'. ;)updiamonds wrote:

Yes I know that there's 22 big games, 3 points on Saturday would increase are lead and put the likes Holbeach, Yaxley, PNS, Wisbech under more pressure given the fact that they're still in the Vase.
I myself wouldn't mind if Holbeach stayed in the vase for a while, (ie, more of a destraction, there fixture list piling/building up etc).

I agree, best scenario for us is that Holbeach get pre-occupied with the FA Vase, with the odd replay thrown in for good measure.updiamonds wrote: I myself wouldn't mind if Holbeach stayed in the vase for a while...
