Starting to get a bit tired of these statements - next time I hear chants like occurred on Saturday I'm just going to track down a steward and have a word, because we're starting to get a reputation as a pack of hooligans. We've got to be in this league for at least another year, and we don't want to alienate away fans with behaviour like this.

Embarrassed to admit that I joined in one or two of those, but ultimately we've let our behaviour overshadow the game, and that's just not good enough.

Is there much a couple of stewards can do though, ultimately? If 50+ fans are singing a song then isn't it a bit hard to stop them, especially when our stewards are, of course, just volunteers? Hopefully common decency can start to prevail and this kind of stuff will stop, either that or all of the offenders will eventually be banned and the fans remaining will be the ones who can behave normally.

Oh and what away fans?

Well James, I'm glad someone has actually come out & said something. I'm totally sick of the disgusting chanting from the terrace.

When we were RDFC & at Nene Park the singing was absorbed somewhat by the amount of fans we actually had there. Whilst it was bad at times I'm sure it wasn't as bad as it has been lately. We are not in the league any more, with like minded fans, we are a new club, trying to do things right, way down the football pyramid. Other clubs at this level aren't like this & certainly not used to it. It's embarrassing for the club & our fans. Last season I enjoyed bringing our girls to games but haven't done so this year as I don't want to subject them to the vile chanting & swearing. I'm certainly no prude & when 'the singers' are actually singing players songs & supporting the team it does add to the atmosphere in a positive way but they've now gone too far.

I agree with Bob's Bitch, there is only so much the stewards can do but I'm afraid that if they don't stop they will alienate our own fans who will vote with their feet & stop coming. This could also apply to any new casual local football fan visiting (who could potentially become a regular) , thus reducing income income to the club.

Rant over.........for the moment anyway!

It's so frustrating because someone knows what happened, people know the so called supporter who did this. Wonder if anyone will have the balls to come forward? probably not...

I'm waiting for the comment of 'it wasn't us, it was the group who threw the smoke bomb at wolfrinians, the lads who ran across the pitch at eyenesbury match' blardy blah excuse that usually arises when things like this happen.

As for the songs being sung I take my hat off to the singers on the terrace who like to make up chants, heard some humorous ones this season, however when they slate a goalkeeper they ain't smart enough to think of any other word but probably the most offensive c word. There is a line in football, and many times on the terrace it tends to be crossed.

I really hope this person is caught and he is banned from home games, there is no place for this in football, never mind the ucl

Well said diamond.diva... Agree with that post. The club has always for years been known as a family club..it's a shame that individuals are slowly taking that name away...

Strange - the statement related to an alleged physical incident after the game, yet this thread has related it to an entirely separate 'issue' of chanting. Is it fair to put the two together, doesn't seem so to me?

Also, I would have thought that 'it wasn't us' is a fair enough defence for those people that did not engage in any type of physical altercation? Luton fans ran on the pitch at NP once, would it not be fair to say that it wasn't our fault what a separate individual or group of individuals did?

Also, it has been suggested that people wont have the guts to come forward with information? What is that based on? Who are you referring to? Again, this seems to be slander for no reason and without any of the facts?

We get enough stick off the windup merchants in this league without playing up to 'we're in the UCL so lets all act like Potton United nonsense'. Last time I checked, most clubs didn't have our home crowds or away following, didn't sign players on contracts, don't have the level of volunteers, don't have the youtube tv channel or the electronic season ticket system. Should we get rid of these to be just like the other UCL clubs?

I'm not saying there is or isn't a line of acceptability in what is sung, but it seems unrelated to this issue and threads like this seem pointless and needlessly aggressive rather than constructive to any degree.

I wasn't at the game Saturday and nor did I witness the incident, but judging by what I have read on here and other places, I think that makes me perfectly qualified to comment like others have! The club seem to know what happened, have issued a statement and will take appropriate action, end of?

(This is not meant as an 'attack' on the posters on this thread, I am also referring to comments by others on associated UCL forums and media).

Thing is like it was said the same sort of songs were sung at NP, and yes we have a new club but we also have the same fans as before and the passion and excitement they had has been carried through!
And James... Are you really going to tell the steward people are singing naughty songs?! songs of praise is on Sundays pal! Begs the question why did you join in?!
