50 goals...

Post by ID »

We have the (joint) best attack in the league! :D

After only 28 games, too. To put this into perspective, last season it took us 36 games the half-century mark, and that included the 9-0 asterixed win over Weymouth.

Great stuff! (Now just work on penalties ;) )

I don't think I've ever been more off the mark when at the beginning of the season I was one of the fans to question where the heck the goals would come from.

Still, being proved wrong couldn't feel more sweet.

Considering how many goals we've scored, and our great goal difference, I find this stat surprising:

Clean sheets: 8
Failed to score: 9

That is surprising. I would be interested to see how our rivals compare.

Pretty badly! (From our perspective)

Evidence that stats can be quite misleading.

Goals, Goals, Goals

Who'd have thought after watching all of the dross served up under Hart and Hill, the Edinburgh version of the Diamonds would be the top scoring team away from home in the Conference, and would be joint first in reaching 50 goals for the season.

We could easily have had a couple more in the first half, and had we done so we'd have threatened the tally at Hayes and Barrow.

All of that despite the fact we can't score from the penalty spot.

I can't remember us ever being this good away from home.

To think JE has done this on a shoestring budget too makes it even more remarkable.

He has bought in out-of-favour players from Barnet, Mansfield, Crawley, and Grays whilst holding on to the best players that remained. Fantastic.
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

I could'nt of seen this happening at the start of the season, as it took till our third match to score against Eastbourne!

I have tos ay early on i did wonder who would get the goals, but imho, its not really surprising. We have the best attacker in the league in Tommo, and we have four, (five if you include Sam) hard-working strikers, and then players like Wolly and Byrne who are never afraid of getting forward. The same can also be said of Osano and Robbo.

For me 50 goals is a massive achievement and hopefully one we can continue. We also have to hope we can keep oppositions at bay, as this is still the area that concerns me a little. We have been playing very well recently at the back, but i worry about one more injury, especially to Robbo, could hurt us badly.

I do not have stats to hand, but I believe most of our 50 have come in a handful of games.
6-1,6-1,5-4,4-1, 4-2. Thats half in only 5 games. So we have only scored 25 in the other 23 games!

I like to break the season down into sectors.
After the first 15 games our record was W5 D5 L5 20 pts with 21 scored(I think)

In the past 13 it is 9 2 2 with 29 goals, so with two games still to go we already have a much improved second sector. If this form is maintained we are certs for play-offs.

Who knows we may even reach top spot!!

As everyone keeps saying the real test is coming up shortly.

What should be a realistic target from those 4 games? My guess is 7 points.
