Massive rivalry, two sides of town, completely different clubs, Rec are a local club with local lads who don't get paid and Shaw Lane are the complete opposite, players from all over, amongst the highest paid in the division apart from probably Tadcaster and definitely Heanor who are apparently paying out £5000 per week in wages!

Asked on the NL Matters forum and got this response:
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

Would love you to be right, Olly but unless we attract a fair few 'neutrals' I doubt it. You can't add the 100 or so that attend Doughboys matches to our normal home crowd as I know that there are quite a few supporters who watch our home games, but don't travel to our away games and consequently watch Wellingborough's home games instead.Olly wrote:Hopefully we'll beat that crowd on Boxing Day though!
Re: What was Saturdays attendance
I would hope we would beat that on boxing day too, there aren't many other matches on, we were only 50 off it last season!Trek wrote:Would love you to be right, Olly but unless we attract a fair few 'neutrals' I doubt it. On second thoughts you might be right. I had overlooked the impact of the AlfieTaylor/Jake Newman 'fan club'.bozzer wrote: I would hope we would beat that on boxing day too, there aren't many other matches on, we were only 50 off it last season!

That`s not going to make a massive impact as most of us are at the Diamonds games anyway ;) the are lots of extras for the Holiday fixtures, for one of the games the will be 7 + from my family instead of 1, so given decent weather, us still top of the league and Welly turning things round I reckon 1000 is a distinct possibility.Trek wrote: On second thoughts you might be right. Another added bonus is the Ploppies have moved their game from Boxing Day to Sat 27th, and as much as they will claim otherwise I bet a few will don a balaclava and sneak in for a nose.

Yes the owner feels they can rake in more cash by avoiding a clash with a Leicester home game, rather than sticking to the Boxing Day tradition. With their operating losses piling up, I guess they need to take a chance on any perceived financial advantage.Brownie wrote:That`s not going to make a massive impact as most of us are at the Diamonds games anyway ;) the are lots of extras for the Holiday fixtures, for one of the games the will be 7 + from my family instead of 1, so given decent weather, us still top of the league and Welly turning things round I reckon 1000 is a distinct possibility.Trek wrote: On second thoughts you might be right. If a few were to sneak into our game on BD then there'd be a sense of familiarity about it for them - seeing Rushden cruise to victory in a Northants derby.

Looking at gates in Non League Paper, no club at Steps 3-5 had a better crowd than us for a league match, and only 3 involved in the FA Trophy. (Maidstone, FC United and St Neots v Darlo 1884)Trek wrote:574. Largest Step 5 attendance in the country.
Whitworths was 200, due the great and good attending their new club house opening. The previous Saturday for their derby match against Raunds it was 19.
Re: What was Saturdays attendance
Well we had 850 for the game last year and I'd hope that if we can carry on our form and stay at the top of the league for Boxing Day, then we'd perhaps attract a little more local interest for the game this year, hopefully enough to get that 4 figure crowd I'd love to seeTrek wrote:Would love you to be right, Olly but unless we attract a fair few 'neutrals' I doubt it. That's if its not called off because of the usual winter weather.
