3G Pitches in NPL Division 1 South

Post by Trek »

I see that Basford United have recently installed a 3G playing surface. That makes 3 clubs in our division that now have an artificial playing surface. The other two are Bedworth United and Romulus (who ground share at Sutton Coldfield).

I wonder what added advantage this gives the home team?

I went to see Eastbourne Borough on Saturday. Their 3G pitch looks very nice and shiny. It does seem strange to see dirt fly up at every kick of the ball, and it seemed a bit contradictory as sometimes the ball whizzed through and on other occasions it seemed to hold up. Some pretty crunching tackles but no one had any "grass burns". It certainly took Hemel Hempstead until the second half before they got to grips with it, but by then were two down!

Not sure how it would play on a rainy day.

Make that 4 since Lincoln United play on a 3G surface.

Romulus are having issues with the 3G pitch at Coles Lane (as are Sutton Coldfield - http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/suttoncol ... 59788.html )
