The Sunday League club that I played for and was secretary in the early 70's was Crypton Dynamo's and we also played in Gold and Black. Sadly not as successfully as Moscow Dynamo's or Wolves, but then Black Country Diamond would say..."no one could be as good as Wolves"

According to Tony Jones in his book 'Ten of Diamonds' when they formed a new club in Irthlingborough after WW2 they were inspired by Dynamo Moscow who had completed a successful tour of friendly matches in this country drawing huge crowds.
Diamonds was the nearest name they could come up with.

The mighty Wolves have inspired many a team Sussex Diamond!!!!

Wolves beat Dynamo Moscow in the 1955 tour as part of a series of famous pre-european cup floodlight friendlies over a couple of years where we took on and beat the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Spartak Moscow, Honved who were virtually the Hungary team who had bruised English pride at Wembley 6-3. They were some of the first games to be televised live too....

Dynamo Moscow had toured earlier....in 194 something playing football like no-one had ever seen and inspiring many.

Great to be playing a side with such inspiration....and great colours!!

"The Russians arrived in October 1945 in the shape of Moscow Dynamo and embarked on a very curious tour. Their demands were extraordinary: they would only play club sides; they would provide their own referee who had to be in charge of at least one match; they had to eat all their meals in the Soviet Embassy and so on. Britain starved of top-flight football agreed to everything.
Dynamo’s first match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, was packed to the rafters. Nobody knew what to make of the Russians - the press had already written them off - particularly when they took to the field with each player bearing a gift of a bouquet of flowers which were solemnly handed to their opposite numbers.
When the match began Dynamo simply overran Chelsea with fast, fluent football, but against the run of play found themselves two down at half time. They fought back however to gain a 3 - 3 draw.
Cardiff City were trounced 10 - 1 before Dynamo met an Arsenal team strengthened by the presence of three England players, Stanley Matthews, Stan Mortensen and Joe Bacuzi, at White Hart Lane.
The fog was so thick that visibility was down to 10 yards. Accounts vary as to who refused to call off the match, and both sides blamed the other. The game was played with, at the Russian referee’s request, the two English linesmen on one touchline and him on the other. The Russians took an early lead, fell behind and, after a host of dubious decisions, won 4 - 3.
Their final; match was at Ibrox against Rangers, where 90,000 saw the Russians take a 2 - 0 lead that evaporated into a 2 - 2 draw. And they flew home unbeaten."

Finished with a 3-1 victory, Lorraine and Joseph scoring in the second. Both lobs from different circumstances, Lorraine tried to cross, miss-hit and over the keeper. Joseph with a brilliant chip from the edge of the area after nicking it off the defender. Awful first half and Loughborough could have felt hard done by to only go in at half time level. Much better in the second but not a great game overall. With only a week until the start of the season most of the squad from last season look up to the task, but still not sure if Tommy Berwick is good enough for AFC. However. only a few of the new signings look capable in Herbert, Wilkinson and Gordon. Spriggs will be ok if he signs, but Lawless, Quigley and Kilbride look like squad players at best to me, although Kilbride will work his arse off. Looking forward to next week as im sure most have seen enough friendlies, only 187 in attendance today.
