Holbeach v Yaxley
Re: Holbeach v Yaxley
Yes that run has put them in the driving seat now, and they still keep bolstering their squad. Any neutral would say it's theirs to lose now with a lot of their tough (on paper) games now out of the way. We obviously need to go to theirs on 24 Jan and win the game; a strong, assertive start (like Spalding away) will give us a good chance. It's up to us to put pressure on them by winning our games.
Other than that, we're relying on The Tigers losing to a mid-to-lower placed team - just once would be enough to open the door for us

Anything is possible. There could be an Oadby-style collapse. We've got to win every game now though, and after the Holbeach game that's definitely doable.
In other news, Huntingdon didn't produce a programme for their game against Newport Pagnell yesterday (which they lost 2-0), and instead handed out leftover programmes from their home game against Yaxley earlier this season!

Lots of twists and turns to come - just got to keep the faith !!
I still believe we'll do it - lose at Holbeach and I may have to review that opinion.

Agreed, you don't award the title to a team still not topping the league. OK so they've won 3 on the bounce coinciding with re-signing their goalkeeper from the title winning season but they've had very narrow home victories against Wisbech and an under strength, depleted Yaxley outfit last night who probably went looking for a draw. They also huffed and puffed against lowly Rothwell last Saturday in the KO Cup winning with a very late Beeson penalty.Pigman wrote:Lots of twists and turns to come - just got to keep the faith !!
The Tigers have still a half season's league matches to play! ;)

Remember the away trips to Sileby and Spalding!!fentiger79 wrote:Well I Hate to say it but seems holbeach are firmly the team likely to win it now. The last 3 games against cogenhoe, wisbech and yaxley have yielded 9 points and not even a goal conceded. I think we all expected them to drop some points in these games and we are running out of teams who they still need to play that could realistically take points off them. We need to go there and win.

Re: Holbeach v Yaxley
Holbeach''s next games are against Kempston who are currently 4 wins on the trot, with Thurnby in the Vase on the 17th.(maybe aet and even a replay!) By the 24th we will be 4 games ahead of them and a possible 11 point lead.
If Holbeach come through the next couple of weeks unscathed they will deserve to win the league.

They then follow that with us, Deeping, Cogenhoe, Boston Desborough and Huntingdon. All teams who have, could, possible will take points off those at the top. As you pointed out (subject to the weather) by 24th we could be in the position to go 14 clear from 4 more games with a win there and that wouldn`t be a bad position. Half a season still to go and given they have dropped 10 points in the first half I`m not ready yet to join the "they won`t drop any more" camp quite yet. We may though have to follow their lead and add a couple to the squad as given our recent injury list we had started to look a bit thin on the ground with nominal options in some areas.sussexdiamond wrote:Holbeach''s next games are against Kempston who are currently 4 wins on the trot, with Thurnby in the Vase on the 17th.(maybe aet and even a replay!) Re: Holbeach v Yaxley
I cant believe that they'll go the rest of the season without dropping points, undefeated is a possibility but I think some teams will hold them to a draw at home. Game in two weeks is massive now, we can certainly do our bit by being the 12th man. There were certainly games in the first season where this worked, Sileby, Oadby, Eynesbury, Spencer.

Re: Holbeach v Yaxley
I see no reason why we can't put Holbeach to the sword later this month but for now we're on top of the league and they've got quite a job to get past us - I think we're a stronger side, we've got better depth, and we're the Diamonds! Just keep the faith, focus on one match at a time, and I think by the end of the season it'll all be alright on the night.
