How good are Spalding?

Time has dulled my memory (which has never been great, ask mrs p;)), but I think I'm right in saying we were that many points behind both at one stage, and many had given up the hope. I'm sure someone with a better memory will correct me, I think we were 13 behind Yeovil and 12 behind Hartlepool (come on trek, you'll know!!!).

The thing I have learnt from supporting rushden & diamonds is expect the unexpected - it's never dull

I seem to remember we were 18 points behind Yeovil, but with a couple of games in hand, in January. The turning point seemed to be Yeovil's defeat at Rockingham Road, shortly followed by "Duane's" match there when we won 2-0 with 10 men.

'On March 1st 2003, Diamonds were in second place in the table, a massive 12 points behind leaders Hartlepool, and at that stage there was no talk of the title. However, an incredible turn of fortunes for both sides resulted in one of the most amazing finishes to the season. With Hartlepool struggling to find any form, Diamonds took full advantage and in March the club racked up wins over York, Hull, Bury and Exeter, with Brian being named Manager of the Month (his second award of this type for the season). Diamonds won four important games on the trot in April, including a 2-1 victory over Carlisle, which secured promotion and could have secured the championship in the penultimate match of the season, but a 0-0 draw against Leyton Orient combined with a Hartlepool win set up a mouth-watering end of season game. The computer fixture could not have written the script any sweeter – Hartlepool were the last day opponents for Diamonds at Nene Park. However, this was to be Diamonds day as they held on for a famous draw to secure the championship in only the club’s second season in the Football League.'

I thought this thread was 'How good are Spalding ?' It seems more like a 'let's talk about a previous non existent club and how we performed in the League 2 promotion season'. This has nothing to do with AFC R&D and our current title rivals. :?

I don't think its over but lets keep our feet on the ground, we're just carried away after a few good wins like all fans to ;) but for Spalding to win 15 out of 15 takes some doing!! I think we have more chance in the Vase and if we get some kind draws you never know

I believe that the point being made is that you don't concede the title in November when a side has only played 15 games, not withstanding the fact that they have a 100% unbeaten league record. It will take a mighty fine chase by one of the the other title contenders coupled by a run of bad form form by the Tulips for this to happen. Unlikely, I agree but if they were to drop maximum points against Deeping, Huntingdon and ourselves then the chase would really be on.

Other than the great deal of relevance in the possibility of chasing down a team with a large points lead, which is where the Old Club became involved possibly as many here were there also and have seen it happen more than once.

RDFC the club may not exist but a partial part of its support formed the new Club and with it comes the memories of past times which relate in this instance to chasing down a club or clubs with a substancial lead, therefore it is relevent to the thread is it not :?:
