Tynan wasn't bad and I liked Marriott. We had that weird period where we had Dale and Marriott, both very good keepers.

On the field he definitely earnt us more points than he lost us, probably the best shot stopper we've had and a good kicker aswel. Everyone makes mistakes but what annoyed me was that he made the same mistake twice.

Two very vivid memories for me of a quality keeper.

Never forget the away Sheffield cup game where he ended up with a bandage on his head, best ever impression of a pint of Guinness i have ever seen lol. :lol:

Talbot received a lot of abuse from our fans at the end of the game as well.

That's right - and it was Turley's first game back after serving a ban for a red card against Donny Rovers. It was the Diamonds lowest point of the Championship winning season - the fifth defeat in a row.

I think DB might be mixing it with the midweek game at the Crabble a couple of seasons earlier when a lot of Diamonds fans were late due to an accident at the Dartford Crossing.

Yes you are correct, it was also the game that people believed that Terry Westly had been sacked.

The mid week game i was thinking of was the spalding cup game, the same one where unfortunately one of dover's officials passed away during the first half.

Dover was always a great trip.

Supporters coach turning up at "The Station" pub was always a highlight - great place to visit.

I remember that 4-1 defeat, that's the game someone took a swing a Talbot, the next game at Hayes away we were all segregated and monitored because they were worried that there was going to be Talbot attacks.

PS, look at the crowds in that season, wow.

I wouldn't include Alan Woodman in the criticism. He was more of a goalie coach and kept a clean sheet in each of his 3 and a bit games. His injury away at Barnet effectively ended his playing career but he did go on to be Diamonds assistant manager for a while under Barry Hunter.

Of course Ashdown was brilliant but we also had the likes of Worgan, Blayney, Shearer, Young, Woodman, Ruddy, Tynan, Crane, Eyre, Baker, Bastock, Nicholls, Margason, Anderson, Marriott and Lance Key before Dale became our proper number one for a regular period!!!!

Those names bring back some memories.

Ashdown was without doubt the best keeper we ever had IMO in terms of actual ability. I thought he'd go on to play for England but it never quite happened for him in the end. He's still managed to carve a career at a great level though. Turley was a close second on the basis that he was so consistent over 3/4 years, it's a shame his reputation was tarnished. Who knows what Dale would have gone on to achieve.

Of the other names, it's amazing to see how far John Ruddy was gone given how appalling he was for us, albeit in a dire team. I couldn't put a face to Baker. My abiding memory of Paul Bastock is him smashing the ball at Tom Bonner in a pre-season friendly and knocking the poor lad out, was a comical moment. I saw Scott Tynan playing for Vauxhall Motors against Corby last season and he's put on a lot of weight.

Am I right in thinking Andy Woodman never conceded a goal for us? Remember him getting stretchered off early doors away at Barnet never to be seen again in a playing capacity.

As for the worst, got to be Lee Worgan. The lad couldn't catch a cold.
