I did receive a decent reply from him and it is clear that his hands are tied to a certain extent however he has promised to give as much coverage as possible. He also has no allegiance with K*ttering and was very disappointed with how things turned out for RDFC.
Ahh, thats good to know.

Let's face it, Mark has seen more Diamonds games than many / most of those who would have seen us play last season - back from our first stint in the Conference, home and away - and its obvious he respected the good things about the club - but was not afraid to criticsie where criticism was due.

My regret was that the ET handed the "news story" element of the Diamonds last days over to one of their "news journalists", based in a different office, who could have dug deep to expose what had really been going on, but instead she chose only to focus on the "human element" - and thus wasted an opportunity to write a story that could have reached a wider audience than a quiet corner of East Northants.

The reply I had to my complaint to the editor of the ET bascially said:

The ET is still investigating the events leading up to the demise of R&DFC
They can't just repeat allegations and roumers without evidence that they can substantiate in court.

The ET isn't ignoring R&D fans but the pheonix team will only receive coverage proportionate to the ammount of support they receive and the standard of football they play at.

RE the recent coverage of K*ttering Town, they are simply trying to develop a healthy working relationship with what is now the only club in their circulation area playing at that level

At least I got a reply!!

Looks like to me that our support could be good as Corby, bet we don,t get the same coverage. I suggest if we don,t get a good coverage we start a local boycott of the ET , hit them in the pocket

We should flood the ET with emails and letters asking for coverage - an agenda item for tomorrow night maybe? Unless there is a reporter there? Then we can badger them a little bit (in a nice way) :D

i emailed the editor yesterday and got a very good reply from him. Ralph and I will try and meet him over the next few weeks.

He has promised to feature us, and also to try and get someone to the fans forum tomorrow.

I think once they see the story for themselves i hope they will give us a bit more coverage.

Wow, that's a truly appalling response from a local paper who failed to over turn one single stone and dig for any sort of story while the Diamonds were trying to stay alive; any other local paper would have done some digging, they pretty much stood by and watched the club die.

And as for receiving proportionate coverage, they haven't even given us any type coverage; I would suggest the new club make it their number one priority to grease the wheel with the Herald and Post and this new Rushden newspaper.

You have to do it, you need the local media on your side, don't be scared of negative articles though, the new club needs coverage; in these early days any type of coverage will highlight the club to local fans.

Forget about the ET, I haven't brought an issue in 6 or 7 years, I check out their website once or twice a week but that's about it.

If you get someone literate to write match reports, include a few quotes as well the ET will print them.

It might be worth contacting "The Rushden Reporter".

advertising@rushdenreporter.co.uk

As well as some coverage of the game at Raunds on Saturday, I noticed Rushden & Higham RUFC had a full page spread, advertising for new players as well as their upcoming fixtures.

This should be getting delivered to every home in Rushden, possibly even Wellingborough too.

So would be a great place to let people know about AFC Rushden & Diamonds.
