I particularly dislike loud pointless noises. Hence I generally carry a pair of foam expanding ear plugs with me which are very effective. I find them especially good when on a train with young children nearby, or mobile phone man.

I ticked not bothered though, as I know that some people love such noise, and who am I to stop them. I have the technology to avoid being bothered :)

I can't stand the noise from these bloody things, it's worse than the horns that are handed out free to kids at FA Cup games in this country.

However, they are a major part of the carnival atmosphere at African games, and much of the appeal of the World Cup is the opportunity given to the hosts to show the world little aspects of their culture. With that in mind I grudgingly accept their inclusion in World Cup games, and I certainly believe it would be wrong for them to be banned, just because some spectators may find them annoying!

However, anyone I see using one who isn't at a game in South Africa might find themselves in need of surgery in order for it to be removed from a certain part of their anatomy!
