Gave a good account of ourselves tonight against a team from a higher division. Couple of goals worked from a but more quality was the difference. Don't think the lads can be too down hearted from that performance and good to see Ross Oulton get 20 minutes or so. Back to concentrating on securing a play off place starting on Saturday.

We didn't disgrace ourselves to be honest, matched them for long periods I thought.
Unfortunate that they got a penalty, did think they were looking for a penalty though, as they went down two or three times before the one that was given.
Now we can concentrate on the league & achieving a play-off place.

I think that overall we played pretty well tonight. One player I'd like to point out would be Lewis, I thought that he did very well in an unfamiliar role and didn't look at all out of place. The return of Oulton is a big highlight from the night and puts even more competition in what has become a crowded central midfield.
Also nice to see finners have a good game to remind people that he is a decent keeper and that he is more than capable of getting back into the first team

IMO playing in the northern league has been a good experience. I think there's a bit more tempo and physical presence from the opposition players and this would be great to take into the southern (if that's where we go). We need a bit better centre midfield (maybe Oulton is the man?), and a tall central defender.
Great effort from the boys last night just need a bit more quality.

Not sure we need anything else in central midfield. With Oulton, Quigley, Farrell, Bunting, Curtis, Leslie and Harris i'd say we're completely stacked in that area and should have more than enough for this level of football.Three of Diamonds wrote:IMO playing in the northern league has been a good experience. Thought it was a great effort from our lads and a really entertaining game. Agree with a previous comment about Leslie, thought he did well in an unfamiliar position. Not too disappointed to be knocked out to be honest, hopefully we didn't pick up any injuries and we're ready for a huge game on Saturday against Leek. Leek lost 5-2 to Witton last night.
They say we've lost our money we're not famous anymore.....

I certainly agree with Peaksy about Tuesday night’s positives. For most of the match it was unclear who the higher placed team was. The quality of our football has improved greatly in recent times aided by the new signings; so nice to see us play it on the ground instead of the high ball business we witnessed at times earlier in the season. A special mention must go to Tom Lorraine becoming our all-time leading goalscorer. He always puts 100% effort in and it really couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke.
Although he was at fault for at least one of the goals I agree it was great to see Ross Oulton in a Diamonds shirt again. If he could return to anything like the player he was before the injury then a partnership alongside Ben Farrell in the middle could be formidable.
I’m not sure where Football Web Pages get their information from but they have the Witton vs Leek score down as 0-0. Witton now have 71 points not 69 and Leek 54 instead of 55. The odd point could be very crucial come the end of the season!

Semi-Final was drawn:
Grantham vs Clitheroe
Bamber Bridge/Ashton United vs Buxton
Based on that, draw doesn't look like it was regionalised.

I don't think we would have fancied a trip to Bamber Bridge on a tuesday night. I believe its near Preston.
