What a fabulous place! perched high up on the moors, beautiful scenery and the autumn tints. Boy was it cold, would hate to come here on a tuesday night in January. The pies were hot and tasty and the locals really friendly.
The lads performance today was once more full of passion...it would have been so understandable had heads dropped after losing a 2 goal lead but no, they dug in and bounced back to record another great result.
Who would have thought we would get 6 points from Spalding and Stocksbridge.
A great chance to go even higher on Tuesday, but as been already said "no complacency"!!.

Re: [ Sat 5th Nov ] v Stocksbridge Park Steels, KO 3pm NPL1S AWAY
An excellent 3 points against a very good side. I don't really think we deserved to win on the balance of play, but i'm not complaining. There's no way we'd have won that much a month or two ago, i'm convinced of that.
We started very well and had a couple of early chances. The penalty was won as a result of a foul on Wilson - looked a nailed on penalty from where I was stood behind the goal but Stocksbridge were really unhappy about it, loads of them surrounded the referee and they were quite aggressive in their protestations. Nabil scored it, although the keeper came very close to saving it, getting a strong hand on it but only pushing it into the roof of the net.
The rest of the first half was one-way traffic and, it has to be said, had it not been for Ben Heath between the sticks we'd have conceded 2 or 3. Some of the saves he made were incredible, one in particular stands out where he tipped a long-range effort onto the post that had looked destined for the top corner. We weren't closing down quick enough in the middle of the park, allowing them to get 3 or 4 really good long range shots away, all of which had to be dealt with by Heath.
Shortly after HT Evangelinos gets our second goal, one that we'd scarcely deserved following a bit of a scramble in the box. Things started to go downhill from this point. Stocksbridge were awarded a really strange looking penalty after an Ashton handball (I thought the ref was evening it up after the penalty award in the first half) which they converted, following this for around 15-20 minutes we were all over the place. It's at times like that I wish our management team were a bit more animated as somebody needed to appeal for calm. We conceded a second during this period and the game seemed like it was heading for a draw, only for the Stocksbridge keeper to make a total hash of an Evangelinos corner, dropping it against the post with Shariff on hand to poke the ball in.
Some more late drama and more than a little bit of luck, it's about time we had some!
Football aside, what a great ground they've got at Stocksbridge. The clubhouse was excellent with cracking views of the pitch, the food was top drawer and you just don't get that sort of scenary down south.

According to NPL website round up of Saturdays games Nabil Sharif scored a hat trick. Think Nic may be a bit peeved!!!
