Fantastic effort from the lads - great to win from that position.
Speaking to Rory after the game he reckoned it was a clumsy challenge but not an intentional foul - so a yellow card and a penalty with the new rules - the ref saw it differently !
How was an intentional handball not a red card? All I'll say is the ref was in with the assessor for a VERY long time after the game and when (as he left) we jokingly asked the assessor if he'd made the ref cry he just laughed - atrocious referee, should be demoted !!
Massive 3 points for us given 0-1 down and 10 men ! Well done, all the lads can be proud of that !!

After the lads went down to ten men and 1 down, they worked hard to get back into the game and found an equaliser. A lot of credit has to go to the management as they had to to move the team around, made one tactical change then another enforced defensive substitution. The way the team set up in the second was to keep it tight and not conceded for the first 25 and them come out and find a winner. Slightly fortuitous finding it via a handball, but we'll take any goal and that was only our second home league victory. Out of all the forward players we have, nabil shariff really does look a class above. It's just a case of who his best partner will be and from the way they liked up today, Lewis wilson looks like he'll link up well. Couple of tough league games coming up next, but hopefully confidence is growing and more points on the horizon

Excellent character shown by the lads. Hopefully the win can be a turning point in our league season, particularly given the nature of it. Perhaps even more pleasing than the win was the fact we actually looked like scoring and created plenty of chance, even with 10 men!
I'd be very tempted to appeal Winters' red card. The only reason that kind of offence can warrant a sending off under the new rules is if the player makes no attempt to play the ball. The very least you expect is for a referee to know the rules, even if their application of them is suspect.
Looking forward to the trip to Belper on Tuesday. They've only managed to chalk up 1 point from a possible 12 at home this season so plenty of reasons to be positive and confident heading into that one.

Credit where its due management got it spot on, before the sending off I thought we started well and would go on to win, then the turning point we could of easily gone 4-4-1 but we were positive, players kept the believe and got the deserved 3 points to start off an important week.

Harsh on Sheffield that...very harsh. Thought they looked a decent outfit..passed it well but little threat in final third.diamondgeezer1 wrote:Brilliant effort from the lads.
Sheffield were poor though no doubt about that, can certainly see why they are second from bottom.
Sharif easily Man of the match for me.
Lost almost all their games by just the one goal so final third clearly their problem.
Peaksy clearly rated them....so I think we did well to earn the right to win...and then to do it.

I agree. Sheffield carried a real threat going forwards, and created more chances than several of our opponents this season. Too often they seemed to have more than one man extra when going forwards. Quite what would have happened if it had been 11v11 we won't know, but credit to the management for risking a breakaway goal when they got Sam Brown to take the long throw from the right - which resulted in the winning goal. It looks like Ash Deeney is another of our signings who has a long standing injury issue, which is a shame, as he looked like he might be going to solve the right-back issue - especially as he has a long throw that would challenge Sam's.blackcountrydiamond wrote:Harsh on Sheffield that...very harsh. Not really harsh, they were a poor side. I do however think they'd improve with one or two additions.blackcountrydiamond wrote:Harsh on Sheffield that...very harsh. Yes they did look a threat going forward, but most of their attacks came to nothing. A better team would have blown us off the park after we went down to 10 men.

Handball, and handball is handball, no intent comes into it is and always has been a yellow unless it denies a goal.Pigman wrote:How was an intentional handball not a red card?

If it was for holding / pulling / pushing then I read the games laws as saying it should be a sending off. Maybe I'm wrong though.Pigman wrote:Fantastic effort from the lads - great to win from that position.

I also guess that he didn't deem the handball to be a definite goal scoring opportunity so therefore a penalty but a yellow is correct.
Who'd be a referee!

I agree - who indeed!
Looking at the video it does look like a pull back, in which case he got that right - at the time and from the back of the main stand it looked a clumsy challenge and nothing more.
The handball I concede, looking at the pics and the video, wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity - so the ref got both key decisions right it seems!!
