Can you help for a few hours on a Sunday (from 10am)?

As we approach the new season, there are a few bits of outside general maintenance that need completing, and if anyone can spare a few hours on Sunday 26th July, or Sunday 2nd August, that would be great.

[Updated from previous DnD Volunteer Weekend on 27th/28th June]

DnD Pitch as of last week - progressing well (touchlines still a bit behind).

There's not been too many major bits of work this year, but we have a few cosmetic and minor bits to complete ahead of the new season.

We will provide free BACON sandwiches, and Tea/Coffee/Chilled Water -if you have any other preferences let me know, and we will see what we can do, else bring some of your own refreshments.

As always Pitch work has been going on since the last day of the season (seeding/watering/mowing), and much of the weeding (though not all), and inside work is mostly complete. A few WTFC fans have been painting inside Clubhouse, and redoing the changing room floors ahead of some new vinyl being laid, as well as other general repairs to showers/walls/plumbing.

A sample of jobs to be done (we may think of a few more, or you may come up with suggestions on the day).
  • Taking off, rubbing down and repainting a few of the outside doors (toilets/hospitality)
Rubbing down, cleaning, and spraying Metal Door Frame, and Physio Bench
Digging out some soil for some new steps.
Fence/Shed Painting around Dale's Bar Area
Sand shifting - move remaining sand from car park to inside ground (mostly done).
    Patio Weeding - scraping
Jet Washing - we have a jet wash onsite.
    Deck Cleaning/Treating
Weed Spraying - we have large sprayer 8L and concentrate.
    Drilling - Brackets putting up
Possibly repainting outside of hospitality/toilet block.
We have most of the materials/paint already etc.. but if you have any extra tools that may be of use, feel free to bring them down, as well as appropriate clothing/footwear of course.

If anyone has any brickwork/paving/concreting skills and is able to help then please let me know directly as per the email below at the bottom.

Also if you cannot make the weekend, but could perhaps come down one afternoon, or early evening - we may be able to arrange something with some of the jobs like fence painting/weeding etc.. again just drop me an email with your contact details,

Contact Info

Please email me at darren AT afcdiamonds.com if you would like to come down, and any preferred time. Preferred time is likely to be Sat 10am for a few hours to complete as many things as we can, and then Sunday if required.

Access to the DnD

Also as of today (Wednesday 24th June), the old entrance/driveway to the Dog and Duck is likely to be going out of use, so you would need to come down the road parallel towards Whitworths and then come into the Dog and Duck Car Park via the new gates. Will provide more info on this later today once the workmen confirm what they are doing. You can then just park in the normal DnD Car Park.

Had a few volunteers confirm, mainly for Sunday so far, but Saturday is also available. Feel free to let me know if you are able to come - even if just for a couple of hours. Any help always gratefully received.

As mentioned above, the main entrance is currently out of use (as is the new pedestrian gate in the fence next to it).

Come down the Whitworth's Drive and enter via the main Car Park Gates.
Enter via main car park gate for now (both by car or walking). Take care of cars/vans exiting the building site opposite at high speed.

Many thanks to the volunteers that came over to help at the weekend.
We did about 96 Hours of Volunteer Time all told, and consumed quite a few bacon rolls.
Radio 5 Live played all weekend on the speakers.

The main jobs done, as below.

o Soakaway/Pipework put in place. [Some guttering to be done].
o Large section of fence painted, as well as old club shop/new tea bar area.
o Jetwashed astroturf areas.
o Cleaned various barriers/pitchside boards
o Repainted dugouts.
o Weeding around the entire stadium perimeter completed.
o Digging out area for new steps (partially completed).
o Various Doors rubbed down, filled and prepped for undercoat.
o Reseeded touchlines (partially completed).
o Relocated Sand delivery inside stadium. [Small amount left to be done].

Plus many other smaller jobs.

I am away next weekend, but if anyone wishes to pop down during the week, let me know, and we can arrange a suitable time. More painting to be done still (Doors/Fences).

Unfortunately I am unable to be there this weekend to open up/cover, and was out well before this message this morning.

Also I believe someone came down on Friday morning before I arrived, I tend to be there afternoons usually - depending on work schedules. Always best to contact me ahead of time if going down there.

I will probably be at the ground on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday at various times next week (probably afternoons and evenings), but am likely to be there Monday morning, as we are having the dressing room and burger hut floors completed.

I can't be specific as to times as it revolves around my work schedule. If you are able to come down, please contact me as before, and let me know, and I will try to arrange something - even if it is some specific paint/items and tools left out for a job to be done.

<BUMP> Reminder that this is till planned for tomorrow from 10 am. Currently looks a little showery so may not be able to do a number of the tasks (as most are outside) particularly painting. However we do have some weeding/pitch perimeter strimming work to be done that I hadn't been able to catch up with since being away. If you are able to come, bring a rain jacket as 90% of the tasks are outside. We may have a few painting jobs that can be done undercover. Hopefully anything we cannot complete on Sunday, we can get done during week, or next Sunday (2nd August) as the final slot before the season starts.

I know a number of people that would have liked to help but haven't been able to do Sundays - but may be able to do sometime in the week - I will try and update when we will be at ground during the week, and if you can make it great. Alternatively message me on here, or drop me an email as per details in first post on this thread.

We did get some work done today at the ground but the rain came down and washed us out after a couple of hours. There's still lots to do so PLEASE get down there and help if you have a couple of hours free next week. It wont do it itself, we need our fans to turn up in more numbers in order to be ready for the start of the season.
