The Referee

Don't know who this guy was as I wasn't able to get a programme tonight. This guy was so incompetent that he deserves his own thread. Anyone who was at the game will agree with me.
He let the crowd make his decisions for him. I still don't know what either penalty was given for. An absolute joke. To be fair he got little help from his equally useless lino. I can watch a game objectively and being totally unbiased I am big enough to say that I do not think Az O'Connors penalty shout in the second half should have been given. However IF the referee was being consistent he has to give it as it was a better shout than either of the pens he awarded Oxford. I actually laughed when I saw the Oxford player go down so theatrically only to look on in disbelief when the ref pointed to the spot.
I usually don't let our results get to me that much but I am absolutely livid about this one. We were absolutely screwed and I was please to see JE still having a go at the ref as he went down the tunnel. Obviously the ref was being assessed and I just hope he's made to drop down a league on the basis of the decisions tonight. I hope the two dropped points don't come back to bite us.
Well done to the lads on a battling performance that was worthy of a point or maybe all three if Tommo had his shooting boots on and P*** T**** had hit the target. Definitely didn't deserve to lose. :(

Agreed, disgraceful performance. Didn't think Az's was a peno either, but like you said he has to be consistent. Not sure what happened for the first of theirs, but the second looked as pathetic a dive as you'll see all season.

I would love to see the assessors report on his performance tonight. I think its only fair referees are made to explain their actions and decisions after the game - I've paid £17 tonight and still don't understand why either penalty was awarded.............well, apart from the fact Oxford appealed ? Also, why wasn't the Oxford player sent off for pollaxing Tommo? He was last man.
I too thought he allowed the Oxford fans to intimidate/influence him far too much, and the players - Constable stood arguing with him at one point for over a minute, if I'd been the ref I would have carded him for dissent and told him to shut the f*** up - it looked as though Constable was in charge of that little exchange.
As I said on my previous thread - he got all the big decisions wrong and that cost us.......I actually think if we'd managed to score he would have disallowed it.
Justin was rightly furious at the end, I don't think the ref was a cheat - just weak !! A clash of the importance of tonight's match deserved an official with some balls - this guy had none !!

I thought it was given the benchmark he'd set - it was two handed push, sure he went down easy, but it was a push - seen them given for less haven't we???????

When the home fans are singing 1-0 to the referee, you know someone is taking the piss. I'll post more tomorrow but my thoughts generally echo the first post.

The radio commentary was funny too. They actually said
"will they get a decision right tonight" and "lots of other refs wouldn't have given those pens"
then cheered loudly at the final whistle.

Just got back and have just about calmed down now! No idea what the first penalty was for but the 2nd one was disgraceful. How can the ref give a pen so late on in the game for so little, it barely looked like a foul! Was pleased to see our players and management having a go at the ref at the end as clearly something HAD to be said to a ref that seemed so against giving us anything for large parts of the game, the linesman on our side hardly any better either, was so angry at these morons tonight
Listened to radio Poxford coming away from the ground in utter disbelief at their praise for a cheated win, Oxford were an absolutely pathetic excuse for a team that's supposedly top of the table and I hope they realise how lucky they've been tonight, I will be very annoyed if they go up as champions after tonight's showing.

Soo frustrated tonight, i hope the team aren't too disheartened, lets hope this spurs them on, the quicker we're out of this league the better the standard of officiating!

Aah, i posted on the main game thread and asked this question, about what the penalty was for, as the commentators didnt seem to know either.
Seems the ref was a complete pratt who was biased as shite and gave the weaker team the win. Fancy giving a penalty (again) one in the first half was bad enough it seems, but 5 mins to go, and for what? a poxy push, when they let any of our calls go?
Ive never really believed that a ref can be that middle of the road on decisions and not be a teeny bit biased...how many times have we seen games where we wonder if the ref is related to someone playing in the opposite team because of diabolical decisions.
I hope JE can make a formal complaint about this ref, cos he lost us a point
For the record? Mr Steve Creighton of BERKS should now change his name by deed poll to Mr.S.Cretin and become a monk or something, he is shite at refereeing !!!
