Assuming Tommo departs to greater things in the next few days how do we see this affecting the shape and make-up of the side?

If we stick with the recent 4-3-3 (of which I am not a fan) then the option may be to play 3 out and out strikers, e.g. J-Lo, Farrell and O'Connor, with Terry, Byrne and Wooly/Porter in Midfield.
Another option may be to push Wolly more into the Tomlin role, with one less striker, and having Terry, Porter and Byrne in midfield.

Should JE revert back to the traditional 4-4-2 it gives the option of bringing Patterson back in as a dedicated winger, with Wooly, Porter, Terry and Byrne competing for the other 3 midfield slots.

This may also depend on whether JE is able to bring a new face/faces in before the deadline.

Tommo seems to have been playing a free role, similar to how David Bell used to play, so ithink we would have to return to 4-4-2 with Patto or maybe a new face playing on the left. I think Byrne would move out to the right or even see the chance of Beeky returning to the set-up for the first time this season :roll:

I wonder if initially, Sam Smith will fit into the fold as one of the three strikers, or more likely Az O Connor. think both of these have the capabilitiy to fit into a right wing position if the formation requires a change at any stage in a game, and they would provide enough pace to work well with J-Lo's strength and Farrell's work rate.

I am less pessimistic about Tommo leaving tbh. I think it is quite late, and with no action so far, i think JE will be keener to hold onto him, unless he can find a suitable replacement, who can also come in asap. If he does leave, however, i think in the last couple of games we have seen that although he is the lynch-pin (sp?) i dont think he is irreplaceable, and with the likes of Wolly coming back, i think we could still be in decent stead without Tommo.

As ever, time will tell...

I don't think he's going to go... just a gut feeling, but surely if he was going he would have gone by now, and we would be wondering about his replacement?

To be honest, I hope he stays, and spends the rest of the season re-doubling his efforts to earn a deal with a bigger club come summer, thus propelling us in and through the play-offs to the sunlit uplands of the Football League, and the joys of a November Tuesday in Gigg Lane, Bury (sorry, Woody, and other Old Burians... or old Oldhamians, John!)

I think he means the player that is really talented but only ever seems to warm up before a game and at half time.

Agreed, Pattison has been majorly underused IMO.
If Tommo goes, we desperately need a creative spark, as whilst we have a lot of workers, i'm unsure of our ability to open up defences without Tommo in our side, especially when we don't really have any natural goalscorers in our squad.

Worst person i've ever watched warm up - hit so many balls into the debanke over the last couple of games that i just started to dislike him...he can be effective though i'll give him that.
