Makes sense, but I'd still say lets have this as a pre-season game in the July sunshine !!

Brilliant I will be able to make this now! Good desision . Suppose the hardest thing was sixfields moving the date , staff etc
Re: 20th April - Hillier Cup Final
Good decision, glad they they made it, it would have been pretty farcical to have played it on Wednesday and neither team would have been able to play anything like a full strength team, at least playing it a few days after possible playoff finals for either should mean both can put out reasonably strong sides and make it a good game.

I agree but current NFA competition rules might make that difficult in so much as some players who played in previous rounds of the competition could no longer be registered with the club.Pigman wrote:Makes sense, but I'd still say lets have this as a pre-season game in the July sunshine !!

Little bit of outside the box thinking required and all sorted - change the rules !!Trek wrote:I agree but current NFA competition rules might make that difficult in so much as some players who played in previous rounds of the competition could no longer be registered with the club.Pigman wrote:Makes sense, but I'd still say lets have this as a pre-season game in the July sunshine !!

If played as a preseason it wouldn't really matter would it?

I like the sound of that. A pre season tournament.

Re: 20th April - Hillier Cup Final
It's the principal County Trophy, it wouldn't be up to the NFA to change the format without a change to the constitution, therefore it would up to a member club to put a proposal and then all affiliated clubs can vote on a change. Just because of a bit of fixture congestion there's no need to instigate drastic changes. RDFC club and fans were always a bit dismissive of the competition in the past but we, as a new club, have now treated the competition with the respect it deserves.
Nothing wrong in having the Final a week or so after the league competition finishes as will now be the case.

Other than the minor detail if both us & them have lost in promotion playoffs a few days earlier nobody will give a flying f..k about the Northants Senior Cup. Whereas if it was 3 months later everyone would be up for it.

Don't like the idea of playing pre season as both teams would just be treating it as run out, like the Chris Ruff Cup at Hayden Road.
Its place is at the end of the current season but should not have been scheduled until after the play offs and I am not mad on it being played at a near empty Sixfields.
As it stands both teams could be celebrating promotion.

Re: 20th April - Hillier Cup Final
Does it deserve any respect? It's a competition with no prestige, prize money or fan interest. Every team in the competition sees it as a nuisance and this can be said for every County Cup in the country. They're competitions that should be scrapped. There's only slight interest in this game because of the teams involved but as Brownie says, if we've both lost in the playoffs, no one's going to be up for it. If we win the playoffs then it'll be an 'after the Lord Mayor's show' type game.Trek wrote:RDFC club and fans were always a bit dismissive of the competition in the past but we, as a new club, have now treated the competition with the respect it deserves.
