I've noticed radio cobblers to give us very little coverage as well in their Saturday sports show, only mentioning us in their UCL roundup at the very end of the programme and as far as I've heard, nothing else in the programme. And while I obviously understand why, it is funny how they provide more coverage (online commentary and quite regualr reports) for Corby and Brackley, teams with fanbases no more than 300 more coverage than us and Ploppies, teams with fanbases of 500/600+ (though perhaps that's stretching it a bit for the Ploppies currently ;) ). Shows how much football in Northamptonshire is changing, who'd have thought a couple of years ago that Brackley would be the top non league club in the county!

I listen to Radio Northampton's sport show on the way to and from our games, and i've got to agree that they don't mention us whatsoever other than when announcing UCL results at the end.

I have also noticed that the coverage given to K*ttering has been scaled down massively, whereas Corby and Brackley are enjoying much more publicity. It makes me wonder if they're obliged as a BBC station to cover the top 2/3 clubs in the county tier-wise rather than the best supported.

I think that is what happens. Same with BBC Look East and ITV Anglia you get a mention on Fridays and Mondays if you're in the League but drop off the radar when you're relegated into the BSP unless you get a lucrative FA Cup match.

I respect the position of the BBC because it is consistent. Regardless of followings the teams higher up the pyramid get more coverage.

The position of the ET is not.

They gave us more coverage. Then people from the other UCL clubs were counting words and complaining, so they dialed it back. I guess they figured alienating the rest of the UCL while getting us on side wasn't worth it when they could wait a year or two till we are in the UCL prem and one of the biggest clubs there, and can justify more column inches than the other UCL clubs on all fronts.

They gave us decent coverage last season IIRC, and few people batted an eyelid. If anything I think we are getting worse coverage from them now than last season.

To be honest with the increased interest from more teams and more games in both Div 1 and the Prem they (both, but mostly the ET) should be ramping up the coverage of it, especially as it is now closer to the top level of football in East Northants where the Evening Telegraph is meant to cover. But they don't appear to be.

I wonder if they will when next season there is another new club in the UCL structure (I predict).

All this said I always thought Dunham was a fairly unbiased reporter between the two clubs when we were at the same level.

I think that our status, gives many sports writers a dilemma, we are not a top level club in terms of league position etc, but with the amount of fans that come through the gates, we are way up there, just under the Knobblers.

So if they ignore us, they risk losing customers, but if they give us, what is seen as over the top publicity due to our league standing, then they risk alienating other readers.

If we go through the leagues without attracting extra attention, then they also risk, not getting exclusive stories from us in the future.

Personally I think that we will break the mould and create another type of publicity, which I can see the press.as it stands missing out on 8-)

Its all bollocks frankly !!

We're newsworthy and its sloppy journalism to ignore us to be honest, we're currently the second best supported team in Northants and whether people like it or not, thats a fact. Another fact is that we're fan led and with our SRJFC connections and our academy have probably no of the best community wide set-ups in the county. ............ah well, who really cares !!

No wonder it's going down the pan.

Feature on....umm Whitworths or S&L story for example ;) is not going to increase your readership is it now. An AFC story might add at least 200+.
I have to agree, they are in the business of selling papers from their perspective so you'd have thought they'd give more focus to things which will increase curculation even if not "fair" to others

Feel exactly the same, except for maybe the last few months of the playoff season, I've never been this enthusiastic and excited for Diamonds games before (wasn't there for the glory days) and I could never have imagined I'd be this excited for games against teams like Olney or Fakenham, but I am! Not sure exactly why, probably either because of the year out from Saturday football or because we go into every game with a decent chance of winning.
