Re: [ Sat 13th Sep ] v Hendon, KO 3pm, FA CUP 1stQR AWAY
A disappointing day to be honest, probably the coach situation was the most frustrating thing of all. A broken down vehicle causing major delays and an ill prepared driver who had to stop ask the other driver for directions. There's nothing worse than turning up to a game having kicked off, luckily the players were walking out as we arrived. Wasn't as bad as getting stuck in the mud and walking into Vale park and having kicked off, we were 15 mins late, oh and 1 down
We always knew it was going to be a tough game so not majorly gutted about the result, we made an excellent account of the club and can walk away with heads held high, the lads certainly had their chances to get an equaliser, and a superb bit of link up play between Joe Merrill and Brad nearly worked at the end but it wasn't to be. Only thing I had was the formation was slightly out in my opinion, Jason Turner was the lone man in long periods, but hey ho, all the best to hendon next round and back to league action next Saturday. Well done boys, heads up, let's go again!!!

Took me until about the 15th minute to calm down after a ****ing awful drive to the ground. Absolutely convinced we weren't going to make it when by 1:45 we hadn't managed to leave Northamptonshire thanks to a hold-up on the M1.
The lads should feel proud of themselves after that performance, despite the result. Defensively we were exceptional and frankly we reduced a very strong Step 3 side to long range efforts for the vast majority of the game. Joe Henderson had a great game and was my MOM, although he was arguably at fault for their goal, diving in with his head (and missing the ball) when he might have been better served standing the player up.
I never like going 1 up front, regardless of the opposition. I think it's showing them too much respect from the outset. That said, it was probably the correct decision because even with the additional man in midfield I think we still lost that particular battle. Their guys just seemed to have so much time on the ball and a composure on the ball that we lacked, not that they created much. Unfair to criticise Turner, I thought he played quite well particularly under the circumstances.
Their debutant goalkeeper Ben McNamara was Cobblers second choice 'keeper last season.

Surely not complaining about the coach?????
Hmmmm different when I did the same thing.
You're knocked out with who I am,
Look at you now, you're all in my hands.

I watched Hendon on Monday and we didn't allow them to play anywhere near the level of performance they played then. They played with pace and tempo and only showed that in parts. They changed their keeper who made two great saves whereas Finlay didn't have a meaningful save to make.
We certainly didn't look 2 leagues apart. We should be proud today.

We still talk about that trip, it will live long in the memory!corby diamond wrote:Wasn't as bad as getting stuck in the mud and walking into Vale park and having kicked off, we were 15 mins late, oh and 1 down
Unfortunately, there was a serious accident on the M1 which led to today's hold ups. With the best will in the world, we can't plan for those and once you're on the motorway you're stuck there until the next junction. I'm thankful we made it there and back in one piece as it's likely that (judging by the number of ambulances and fire engines we saw racing to the scene) some people maybe weren't so lucky.
Proud of the lads this evening, we more than held our own against a side 2 leagues above us. There's nothing to be ashamed of.

Accepted although I was in the second coach and the driver was hell bent on taking the same route as the first coach despite it being 45 minutes down the road. It is generally agreed that the best route to London from Wellingborough is via the A509 which is 11 miles shorter. Also our coach was overtaken by a fire engine before reaching the M1 going to the accident allowing the driver to take an alternative route via A508 and A5. It was pointless joining the M1 at Junction 15 when it was obvious that the motorway was blocked.Diamondsforever wrote: Unfortunately, there was a serious accident on the M1 which led to today's hold ups. That was a decent and even game. The ground is interesting, plonked in a residential area
I thought their 5, 6 & 7 were the difference and it came down to Hendon taking their one gilt edged chance, although the lad did his best to miss, while the keeper made a great save from ours.
They will have a lot easier games in their league this season.
Hopefully we will look back on this in May and see it as a blessing in disguise as it allows us to concentrate on the League and the Vase.

Decent words and praise for our fans from a couple of Hendon's supporters.
