Option one we assemble a team good enough for the premier division and then we get elected into division one or lower, players then leave because they feel that they can play at a higher level. I'm not quite sure I understand your reasoning. As others have said, it is the club that gets placed into a league, and the club comprises much more than on-field performance. It will down to ground facilities and arrangement, as well as financial sustainability and the leagues own requirements.

If we were placed in the Premier, this would be because we demonstrated a viability at that level in terms of sustainability and finance. If we happened to then choose rubbish players and came bottom, that is football isn't it? The Premier League didn't reject Derby a few years ago because they thought their left-midfielder was not up to scratch.

That doesn't sound very fair surely progression up any league into the highest rank eg premier should be achieved on the performance of the team on the pitch not on the finances of the club. It seems that football at the lower levels is even more skewed to the financial status of the club rather than the achievements of the team than it is in the professional game.

But this has nothing to do with progression as we haven't progressed from any league. It would be more farcical to have a newly formed club with a new shiny ground, plenty of money and big attendances (not us, just a hypothetical) playing in the Northants Combination, and even then, would it be unfair to place them in the Premier of that league?

Well yes any club should be required to start at the bottom step and then if they are good enough they will rise to the top. Either that or we will end up with a situation like they proposed in the Rugby premiership where they wanted to end relegation.
