Well that was ****ing atrocious. Absolutely dire. However it now leaves us in a very strange situation with Wednesday afternoon possibly becoming an apocalyptic moment in English football (not overstating it). Firstly it has to be said, since we now need to beat Slovenia, who looked bloody good in the first half against the US, and on tonight's showing and the second half of the USA game I just can't see us scoring without a massive revamp of the tactics. Unfortunately I don't think Fabio will alter his tactics and team selection, and if he does it won't be radical enough.

So that leaves us out of the tournament, Capello will resign, he's a proud man and it'll be a failure in his eyes. We're then left with a massive managerial gap to fill. We tried the exotic European manager and it didn't really work, we tried the English manager that everyone was calling for and that spectacularly failed and finally we've tried the disciplined European manager and it's not worked. Where exactly do we go for our next 'world-class' manager? Pair this with the fact that the core of our team is aging and for many they'll be over the hill by 2014. Lampard'll be 36 come the next WC so if we're still relying on him then we're truly fucked. Gerrard will be 34, A Cole 33, Terry 33, SWP 32, Defoe 31, Carragher 36, J Cole 32, Barry 33 and Crouch 33. We don't really have another 'golden generation' shining through. Who would want to manage a team that will most likely be in the wilderness for the next few years, struggling to qualify for major tournaments?

It can even be said if we do go out with a bang, somehow get past Slovenia and then somehow get past Ghana/Serbia to face most likely Uruguay in the QFs we will get absolutely slaughtered. We simply aren't good enough to compete with the flair teams like Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Netherlands and Spain and it's probably time for a massive shake up in the structure of football so we can try and start again, teaching kids to play passing football with proper coaches rather than players' parents. It'll also need some kind of co-operation with the Premier League so that a quota system can be put into place ensuring that English talents will be showcased in the top division, however I doubt the PL would consider that with the financial implications it would bring. If anything maybe it would stop the constant 1966 nostalgia that blights us.

Well I'm glad I got that off my chest, f*** me that was a shite performance. Heskey looked like what would happen if you put Michael Rankine into a World Cup Finals game.

Question: Is Cappello 'doing a Rafa and Ramos' and working his ticket?

This total intransigence to change the shape and tactics has everyone scratching their heads.

No doubt he would get a big pay off. Would he get offered the Liverpool job within seconds of resigning or getting fired?

An embarrassing exit might provide the kick up the arse English football really needs.

Hopefully it'll reduce the arse licking of the Premiershite, the 'best league in the world' too.

The next England manager for me, would have to Stuart Pearce. A passionate English manager, who has the knowhow, would certainly drop the "big names" if they wern't doing the job. Also did a great job with the U21's. I think it would be time to give a manager with little experience a chance, as all else seems to fail!

Tbh, it's all well changing the manager, but it won't do much if what they've got to work with is crap to begin with. Capello's record speaks for itself, it's the players that aren't up to scratch no matter what the media keep bleating.
