A performance of Champions (elect).

Not free flowing, exciting, open, dominating ..... but ground out, winning ugly! Will I remember this match in years gone by - probably not, but pivotal in our promotion push.

Credit to the lads on a pitch which, from the words of their own assistant manager looked good but was uneven and "difficult".

Full credit to Eynesbury who pushed us all the way, but 3 points was what it was all about, we got them! Much respect to them as a club for pulling out all the stops to give us a good day out - hope they made lots of money out of us, nice people (apart from the one muppet)!!

Lots of changes I'm sure for Tuesday, hopefully we'll see Joe get 90 minutes, was great to see him back today. Turner and Lorraine deserve a start on Tuesday, if they do well it'll give Peaksy a welcoming dilemma.

Sam got caught offside today (a career first???) so hopefully a winning header soon to come ;)

These are the kind of wins that define a season - I can't be there next Saturday, so expect a goal fest :)

A few things to mention. The pitch was difficult to play decent football on. The referee did well to award the penalty. We need to use all of our strikers. Adam Confue is sorely missed. Eynesbury were a credit to welcome and accommodate a large visiting crowd. We came away with 3 points.

WE ARE GOING UP.
WE ARE GOING UP.

I thought the pitch looked pretty decent.
The penalty deep in to injury time was just that little bit sweeter, as some of their fans were giving it the biggun when they scored, certainly silenced them!!! :D

It's not just about forwards scoring goals though is it? There's link up play, penalties won, assists and sheer physical presence on the pitch. It's a team game and this team is going along nicely without being chopped and changed because the forwards aren't scoring a bucketload all on their own. The team is in the good habit of winning, even if it's off form for 1 game. Long may it continue I say.

Report in the Hunts Post last Wednesday made interesting reading, comments from Martin Field the Eynesbury Manager, he`s the older one who looks like a 6 year old made his face from play-dough then left it to close to an open fire.
I have taken the liberty to include my own answer to his comments that are taken as direct quotes from the paper.

"for a top of the table team Diamonds are very average. I`ve seen a lot of good sides get promoted from this level and they just don`t compare" Strange that as some of those GOOD sides contained current players in our side.

"I think they are a circus to be honest. I came out after the game to find AFC R&D TV parked outside our stand!" We are not the only team at this level who do post match interviews, do all the others perform these outside the flats down the road.

"They have no class about them either. Their management team were on the pitch contesting decisions and there is no need for it" Presume it`s the 1st time in his time in football he`s noticed managers disagreeing with officials decisions, possibly had much to do with the fact Lee Bassett who got the very good equalizer had between getting booked and scoring the goal received from the Ref at least 4 FINAL warnings.

"If I had their money, I would be fuming with myself if I couldn`t win this league" Well no need to fume Martin as it may well materialize we do in fact win this league.

"People will no doubt think it is just sour grapes from a manager whose team has been beaten by them, but that`s not the case" No of course not as all the above quotes highlight

To all the good people at Eynesbury FC, thanks for the way you looked after us we had a great day out, all the best in the future with the development plans for Club and ground, Oh and we now know why you don`t have Eynesbury FC TV & carry out post match interviews with your Manager.
PS Presume he was one of the unsuccessful applicants for our Managers job last season.

Hark the Green Eyed Monster. To be fair we'd don't have to compare to previously promoted sides we just need to be better than the current lot.

If anyone thinks that the post match interviews are intended as a serious piece of sports journalism then they haven't been paying attention. Lots of people claim to hate them but it's amazing how many people know about them.
