The official attendance was 28 so there must have been 10 in the bar/toilet.

The other 10 were incognito scouts keeping a watchful eye on Gilly the goal machine.

Bit of a strange read to be honest.
I think many of these Groundhoppers are an unusual breed and they spend an absolute fortune on travel costs to get a 'tick' against a ground they havn't visited before. The football on offer is often incidental.
Think you're right. I can understand ground hopping from perhaps the Northern/Souhtern Prem upwards, but to do it at our level is a bit strange. Some of the step 5 and below teams can play on glorified park pitches, so to call yourself a "ground" hopper is perhaps pushing it a bit.
I once got chatting to a guy at a Corby game who claimed to do 2/3 games A DAY. Mental. Said he'd often get roped into warming up 'keepers and doing other bits and pieces. I love going to random games and new grounds personally, although I don't know how the really hardcore guys afford it.
I only go completely out of my way to take games in 4 or 5 times a season. I went to an Irchester game on a freezing cold night in Febraury of this year, and about mid-way through the first half I had a "what the f*** am I doing" moment. After that I decided I wouldn't do Step 6 again unless absolutely necessary and I certainly wouldn't go below that. That Irchester game was the worst i've ever paid to watch.
I do need to do Peterborough Sports and Blackstones though to complete the UCL, as weather permitting i'll do the other two i'm missing (Thurnby and Boston) next month.

"Our" regular groundhopper was at Hullbridge on Saturday, his 268th ground he has now visited.
I think you are being a bit unfair to some of them. Anyone can go to Old Trafford or Accrington but it takes real dedication to go to somewhere like Hullbridge by public transport, as our guy does.
He lives in MK and does his shift as a postie before setting off to pastures new.
Their hobby is no different to trainspotting, collecting stamps or hitting a little white ball with strange sticks into a hole!

Do you mean Simon? If you do then he's a member.

Nice interview with Sam, good to hear him place his personal achievements and ambitions within the context of those of the club's. Here's to the next 100
