It depends on the relationship each club has with its local force. The normal procedure is when the fixture list comes out, is to grade each individual fixture. The grading therefore determines the level of officers inside the ground. However after the Wigan ruling (Dave Whelan etc..) the police are actually invited in to the ground by the host club. The problem is the police can bring forward so called 'intelligence' to up the numbers and again this is done by communication and relationship with the club. If you have a good relationship with the police as we did when we were in charge at Nene Park neither side would take the mick out of each other. However mess the police about and they will get the support of the local Safety Advisory Group (SAG) to police the game as they see fit.

Indeed - in K*ttering's case they are reaping what they've sown, both in terms of their dealings with the police and the reputation of their fans. However, the one that I can't get over is the fixture at the end of our play off season against Luton Town when the police bill was reported as £18,000 which, IIRC, was about the same amount as KC obtained for all the tickets sold in the Airwair and North Stand to Hatters fans. Makes you wonder whether any non league club can make money out of attendances for bumper fixtures given these policing bills. :(

There were a number of circumstances as to why there was such a police presence at that fixture, one of them being the fact that the SAG weren't confident in the club's own safety team to deal with managing that particular fixture!

However that's all in the past, will spend my time more constructively toasting the fact that K*ttering are failing at Nene Park which then hopefully has a knock on effect to the income of a certain landlord :P

Particularly since between mid 50's and mid 70's they had one of the richest men in Northamptonshire, John Nash, as their Chairman and majority shareholder pouring cash in to make them one of the top non league clubs in the country signing players such as Tommy Lawton and Jack Froggatt both ex-English international players. In fact, Froggatt was signed for a then record non-league fee of £6000 which was an enormous sum back in 1957! So all those Ploppies banging on about 140 years of history ought to do their homework before coming out with crass comments about other clubs successes. ;)

I don't doubt that BD. However, my point was that the police bill negated the away income and the policing that day was a resounding success bearing in mind the pitch invasion by the Luton yobs at the end! :(
