What I would say though is that it’s the chants/singing that make the matchday experience so enjoyable. I for one love the chants and yes you do get the odd F word, but to me that’s part and parcel of the match and I for one am happy with that even though I have a young family. As mentioned and has been discussed on TalkSport this week, a swear word does make things more funny sometimes. Unnecessary continual swearing for the sake of is an entirely different matter but that’s not what we’re talking about here.
So please guys do carry on chanting, I love the sense of humour at football matches and have been in stitches many times as people’s quick witted sense of humour. Long may it continue I say. I remember a few years back going to Coventry (who are next to a large Tesco) and a few fans chanted “We’ve been to Moscow, you’ve been to Tesco” – which made me chuckle.
On a darker side, I’ve been to matches in the 80s that there was trouble at with Chelsea, although luckily I never got anything worse than being crushed on a tube or a surge at a match after we’d scored. However, I did go to Millwall v Wolves on a Friday night in 2001, when Wolves were vying for automatic promotion. I mention it because I saw Corby Diamond said he went to Millwall v Wolves but it could have been an entirely different match. I can honestly say that I’ve never been scared at a football match before, but I was there. The experience both before the match, at the match and after the match was to be honest quite scary. Nut hey that’s another story, and luckily our matchday experience is nothing like that.
On the match itself yesterday FABULOUS. We should have been home and hosed at HT after one-on-one’s in the first half. Second half performance before they scored wasn’t up to our first half performance and I did think perhaps ET might be on the cards. Happily we got another and then the floodgates opened. All in all, an extremely enjoyable match especially as my son was Mascot! Now Yaxley – where’s that?
