Could have saved themselves a lot of embarrassment and time had they shown some common sense in the first place - well done all concerned and I'm glad common sense has prevailed in the end !!

Re: AFCRD No1 Shirt
Surely this is common sense by the FA not by the Southern League.Pigman wrote:Could have saved themselves a lot of embarrassment and time had they shown some common sense in the first place - well done all concerned and I'm glad common sense has prevailed in the end !!
The SL wouldn't dare levy a fine for the four games played before today's decision would they?
Re: AFCRD No1 Shirt
Presume it's "special dispensation" to allow the SL to amend their rules at an AGM as opposed to calling an EGM to do it. Trust any possible fine will be waived, or to make a point about new boys making a noise will they whack that on us anyway just to be pedantic. Whichever it gives the FA & SL the opportunity for lots of tea, coffee, sandwiches & cake while they discuss in detail previous decisions & a way forward

Re: AFCRD No1 Shirt
That is excellent news, excellent.
Other teams are allowed to retire players. So why should it be 1 rule for us/Southern League and other rule for the rest of the leagues. That screwed the Southern League board.
Sorry to be honest, but the Southern league board has been poor (no very poor over this)
Just has happened, same rules for every league. (Clubs being able to retire a number) common sense and rightful ness has happened.

Re: AFCRD No1 Shirt
Fingers crossed the members when consulted show the common sense so many supporters of this campaign have and we don't have to go through this all again in 12 months !! Wonder how much canvassing behind closed doors SL board members will be doing over the coming months, they won't have liked being overruled that's for sure!
Well done to the FA though - now hopefully with this resolved and our first win under our belts we can push on for the season

Pretty bored now of people slagging off the Southern League constantly (generally the same people who continue to moan about the UCL) when they were just following FA rules and laws, which is what they are there to do, until the FA rule otherwise.

Re: AFCRD No1 Shirt
That's not actually the case. The rule they were enforcing was their own league rule, and nothing to do with the FA. The rule stated exactly the same as the original rule in the UCL constitution, which the UCL board (to their credit) were happy to amend to allow us to not use the no. 1 shirt. There was absolutely nothing stopping the SL board from amending their rules too, so they deserve every ounce of criticism they get IMO.Pete wrote:....when they were just following FA rules and laws, which is what they are there to do, until the FA rule otherwise.

No that is not the case. Other clubs have retire numbers (and league boards for there leagues) didn't have a problem over it and was fair and ok over it. Nor did the United Counties League board have a problem over it.Pete wrote:Pretty bored now of people slagging off the Southern League constantly (generally the same people who continue to moan about the UCL) when they were just following FA rules and laws, which is what they are there to do, until the FA rule otherwise.

Credit goes towards United Counties league board.

Like davealbon says, the Southern league board decided to follow there own rule, nothing to do with the FA. The Southern league board didn't have to follow there rule. No one forced them to follow there own rule. (Just like the United Counties league board, and the other leagues board's) who choice not to follow there own rule and follow FA, and say/stat it's ok for you to retire your number.
If the Southern league board had of followed the rules and the Southern league board would have stated its fine for you to retire your number, and you can use 17 for goalkeeper. (Just like other leagues)
It's not 1 rule for Southern league and another rule for the rest of the leagues. And that's why the FA over ruled it, (southern league) and correct fully so.
Re: AFCRD No1 Shirt
So there is no FA rule to say clubs below Conf National should wear starting numbers 1 - 11? While I have never been a club secretary to know for sure, there must be some guidance somewhere along those lines.
Presumably FA competitions fall under FA shirt number guidelines so they must have something... For which presumably the club have asked permission not to wear the number 1 shirt.
In terms of clubs retiring numbers is that not generally for clubs further up the pyramid where there are squad numbers and therefore they have the luxury of that choice?
