It rained solidly for eight hours on Thursday night, there's still water in the meadows at the Embankment, no surprise to anyone that there was a tweet about a pitch inspection earlier surely?

Not ideal at all, this was a good chance to bounce back and maintain our top spot, at least for now, but now KL have the chance to go top by 5pm and Egham close in on us even more (and possibly above us in midweek).

It is literally impossible to give any kind of guidance on whether the game will be ok to be on or not. I walked on the pitch at 4pm yesterday and there was lying water on it but it was drying nicely. The pitch was worked on until 10pm last night and the water was gone. This morning it was back again and initially it was felt it would go, however it didn't and it was felt we needed to get the pitch inspected by a ref, at 10.30am it was still waterlogged with more rain forecast.

Thanks for the update bozzer, and thanks to everyone who tried to work on the pitch and get the game on, I know from experience how frustrating it is when you fail after putting the effort in! Great attempt though guys
I'm not in the slightest bit surprised it's off having witnessed what I saw fall here an hour ago (Bedford).
An extra week to rest before getting back on the bike !! Might not be a bad thing for those carrying knocks eh?

Absolutely gobsmacked. I had no idea game was threatened.
Ah well the next hour or so listening to Spurs overcome that one goal deficit and then the rest of the afternoon following twitter for other teams scores.
Oh and watching Davis Cup doubles.

At least we had some clarity quite early on. In the UCL the Deeping v Kempston game was declared on after an inspection, then when the Match Referee looked at the pitch at 2pm he called it off. Something similar seems to have happened in the Leighton v Uxbridge game (which was being played at Barton Rovers for some reason).
I hope most of our fans will have got the message about today's game, but I suspect there will be a few without ready access to the internet who will make the journey.

With this type of weather it's difficult to be able to plan ahead and judge if the pitch is/will be playable - it can go from being playable to not within 10 minutes with the kind of downfall I've witnessed.
Everyone will be disappointed it's off - those who have worked on the pitch until 10pm last night and all morning most of all !!

First part of my afternoon ruined with ********** Arsenal getting equalizer.
GB leading 1 set to 0 in Davis Cup.
Now can the top teams in SLC drop some points please.

Both Egham and KL have just gone behind, penalty and a free-kick respectively, good start to the afternoon

I'll second that. It's ironic that we'd gone two months without seeing a game called off (since 5/1), and then lose one as we enter the final two months of the season. At least we are on schedule with our games, so have several midweek slots - although I note the Doughboys have four midweek home games planned before the end of the season.
