I also recall Belly scoring a very good goal from 20-25 yards, after coming off the bench, in our opening fixture against Darlo at Nene Park in August 2005 and changing a match that we were losing.

It was the season we got relegated from the league, 05/06. We did indeed win 3-0 although had it not been for Joe Hart it would have been double that!Olly wrote:What season was that Belly goal, think I know the one you're talking about, did we beat them 3-0 that day?
I think he came on at half time, replacing the talentless, ineffective Alex Hay. Belly had a hand in Savage's opening goal minutes after coming on, then scored that screamer himself, and then brilliantly set up Chris O'Grady to volley in the third. It was one of the best 45 minute individual performances I've ever seen.wewantourdarbyback wrote:Ah that goal, IIRC Belly didn't start that game after a few lacklustre performances, was brought on during a poor game and changed the game completely.davealbon wrote: with David Bell's 25 yard screamer against Shrewsbury (beating the current England 'keeper in the process) my third choice.

Thought so, Hay was one of those players who looked like he could be brilliant in pre season (hitting the bar against Pompey from 30 yards out) then flopped, not that Craig Dove was better.
The scremer was great, cutting in from the wing and launching it into the net.

Maybe not the best, but one of my favourites was Michael McElatton's header against york City.
Still one of the best players ever to g 8-) race Nene Park
