All Time Diamonds XI: Centre Back
Re: All Time Diamonds XI: Centre Back
I can see the team being:-
Turley
Bignot Hunter Warburton Underwood
Hall McElhatton Butterworth Burgess
Darby Lowe
And would not have any complaints at all if that were to be the case!!!

I'd take that team, although Stuart Wardley was quality (controversial!)

I agree that that will likely be the winning eleven, although it would be an absolute travesty if Darren Collins doesn't make it.Downsie53 wrote:I can see the team being:-

Since 73 doesn't divide by two I thought I'd remind everyone that you have two votes on this poll.

The problem is (I expect) Dave, that quite a few of our fans on here are younger and don't really remember those great players from those teams so can't vote for them. IMO Darren Bradshaw is the best centre half I've ever seen at the club.

Bradshaw was good don't get me wrong, but like has been said, he never achieved anything at the club.

You're right with your first point, and I think the fact that Peaks, Flower, Bradshaw and Rodwell have so few votes backs that up (in fact I never saw Jon Flower play, and I only saw Peaks a few times). As much as I like Barry Hunter, I would put several on that list ahead of him, yet he's comfortably in second place at the moment. Two of Diamonds wrote:The problem is (I expect) Dave, that quite a few of our fans on here are younger and don't really remember those great players from those teams so can't vote for them. As for Bradshaw, I'd struggle to argue with that comment, although the fact that he never won anything with the club certainly stands against him, as does his injury problems towards the end of his time here. I vividly remember one of his last games for us, the last game of the 99-00 season at home to Donny; he replaced the injured John Hamsher at right back and twice picked out Andy Burgess on the left wing with 60-70 yard passes that landed right on Burge's toe! We've certainly never had a defender who was more competent and comfortable on the ball than Bradshaw.

Yup, for me Bradshaw was better. He always found time on the ball, his positioning and timing was spot on and he played his way out of trouble. It doesn't matter to me that he didn't win anything, he's still my favourite
