Re: [ Sat 23rd Aug ] v Mickleover, KO 3pm NPLD1M AWAY
As we prepare to head to Mickleover on Saturday I can't help but cast my mind back to our last visit on 22nd October 2022, still less than 3 years ago.
It was right in the midst of what was without doubt the most difficult period in the Club's history. Richard Maxwell had just been appointed "on an ongoing basis". Board members had resigned en-masse. The EGM had just been called and I believe was held the following week.
In terms of the match itself, it was 2-0. Could have been 6-0. I recall the atmosphere both in the bar before the game, and throughout the match, was horrendous.
On Saturday I'm going to Mickelover with an expectation that we won't lose, and have a great chance of winning. Whilst we aren't comfortable, I'm very content that the ship is well and truly steadied now and we can look forward with optimism.
That is thanks to all of us. Not just those on the board and the amazing volunteers that we have. I mean those that kept buying their season tickets and kept coming through the turnstiles over the past 3 years when at times it would have been easy to walk away. As I look back at the forum post from that match, and look at some of the names of people that posted regularly at that point in time, many didn't make it this far and gave up.

That thread certainly makes depressing reading. Thank goodness we still have a club to be proud of both on and off the pitch. Rob and Alex, along with several others, have done a fantastic job steadying the club financially and now we can look forward to much better times, maybe/hopefully a place in the play offs.

Amen to that and we should all be thankful that we still have a club to support after all the shenanigans of that season. Hats off to all concerned with stabilising the club and giving us fans something to be optimistic aboutBartonRaz wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 8:16 am As we prepare to head to Mickleover on Saturday I can't help but cast my mind back to our last visit on 22nd October 2022, still less than 3 years ago.

Certainly echo this, grateful that we still have a club and the work done over the summer from Rob, Alex and many others has truly been fantastic!sussexdiamond wrote: Thu Aug 21, 2025 9:19 am That thread certainly makes depressing reading. Reading back that thread, I'd forgotten how grim it was going into every game knowing you were almost certainly going to lose.
Isn't it strange how that feeling drifts away, as gradually, by bit things have improved (thanks to the board there!!!!!). I think this and last season I'd go into any game think we'd at least be in with a chance.
