Something To Ponder - The Difficulty Of Signing Experienced Players

Post by Adrian »

As another week goes by with no sign of any signings, some fans may be getting frustrated and thinking "gosh we still haven't added any experience" which given the situation we are in is understandable.

It's easy to think that because we have a limited budget - we can't afford them, which is true.

Then we may think if we raise some money to increase the budget, we should definitely be able to do some deals, which in hindsight is true.

Now, if we look at Corby Town, they are in the same league as us, have a bigger budget than us and they even have an experienced manager with contacts.

However Gary Setchell has been saying for about 2 months that he wants to add some experience to his squad - yet each week seems to pass for them without any experienced players being signed.

I think that kind of sums up what a mammoth task adding experience will be for us and says that we should appreciate and get behind the squad that we have and any new signings regardless of experience.
  • Play it out from the back.
  • 1 up front.
  • Man gets one good result via a new manager bounce and thinks he's Pep Guardiola.

Just heard Setch on radio Npton tonight saying just that, they cannot compete with the wages wanted / offered by some other clubs and they have the largest support in the league

We would have better attendance even at mid table. We’re just waiting for the team to become good. We have the fan base waiting

We already have the die hards , but the glory hunters are waiting. Unfortunately them types won’t come unless the team wins often. Every club has them. And every club has their attendances drop considerably when bottom of league for a long time, in our case its like two seasons.

The attendances have been the real positive of the season so far, much higher than I was worried they would be. I do believe this is due to the legends day and interest has continued, maybe not as much as it would have done if we were winning but still a difference. I honestly don’t think you can beat the matchday excitement even when we lose as there is always some controversy or drama. All for 11 pounds too.
