The lads went one better than the previous round, winning 8-0 tonight against a Thrapston side who knocked the Ploppies out of the competition two rounds ago!

In the opening stages it looked as though Thrapston would put up more of a fight than St Ives did in the previous round, competing well in midfield but failing to trouble our defence. We were rather sloppy in possession during the first half, with too many passes going astray and plenty of crosses being overhit, but we went ahead after about 20 minutes when Lewis Wilson just beat the Thrapston 'keeper to the ball following a poor defensive header, with Liam Read reacting first to tap the loose ball into an empty net. We then had two goals disallowed in the space of 5 minutes, as Callum Earls and Jake Woolley were both flagged offside. We made it 2-0 before the break, when Woolley's flick on towards Read was only half cleared allowing Wilson to run onto the ball and lash in a shot from the edge of the box. The 'keeper just got his fingertips to the shot but the pace was too much for him.

Our second half performance was considerably better, as we moved up a couple of gears and cut out the sloppy passing. Read should have made it 3-0 in the opening minutes, but glanced his free header just wide of the post. We only had to wait a couple more minutes before the third goal arrived though, Jordan Pendered smashing the ball in from close range after Thrapston had failed to deal with a deep ball into the box. It was 4-0 shortly after, when Read's header came back off the post and Pendered's scuffed shot landed at Wilson's feet giving him a simple tap in for his second goal. Woolley then scored the 5th, racing onto an underhit backpass to round the 'keeper and tap the ball in from 12 yards. Charlie Desmond had replaced Elliot Dent in midfield and netted number 6 with the goal of the game, a thumping 25 yard drive into the bottom corner. Zak Reynolds was getting forward at every opportunity and scored a deserved 7th, blasting into the roof of the net from a tight angle as the Thrapston defence started to capitulate. Wilson then completed the scoring with his hattrick goal, another simple close range finish after his marker completely miskicked an attempted clearance.

There were plenty of other scoring chances in the second half with several excellent crosses not being met with the finishes they deserved, while at the other end the defence held firm despite a couple of late counter attacks.

Full lineup:
1. Kyle Swailes
2. Zak Reynolds
3. Callum Earls (Joe Hopewell)
4. Jerry Nash
5. Jake Gillingwater
6. Max Harradine
7. Jordan Pendered
8. Elliot Dent (Charlie Desmond)
9. Jake Woolley
10. Liam Read (Dominic Brennan)
11. Lewis Wilson

Thrapston's defence was utterly diabolical to be fair! Will be giving all the lads banter tomorrow

Very true, I got quite fed up with picking it out of the net by the end :(
