The confirmation by the FA that the new Step 3 will be Central across England is good news for us rather than for clubs such as Lowestoft and Leiston.

Lowestoft Town have yesterday issued a statement to their fans and are in dire financial straits having not paid their players for a couple of months. It appears that they might even end up in the Ridgeons ECL (Step 5) next season if they manage to survive.

The way things are going it looks like any team finishing 3rd at Step 4 will also be promoted. Even Hartlepool are still very much in doubt as to whether they will survive.

I'm sure that will benefit those fans who live in Cambs/Suffolk (for which there are a few) with likely visits to Lowestoft, Kings Lynn (if they don't go up) and Needham Market.*

*All subject to us getting promotion
Also Leiston are included in the latest projection.

Simple answer that we all know. Don't pay players and play at a level that you can sustain.

Interesting analysis of the issues at Lowestoft, it seems like a number of issues.

Almost reduced me to tears reading this article. Everyone else’s fault, the FA for putting them in the northern league, lost players they relied on. Truth is the one thing they were totally reliant on was a deep pocketed Chairman as is probably the case with 50+% Clubs in step 1-4. They are reasonably well supported & with some added sponsorship should be able to run a sustainable Step 3 operation, it’s not f.in rocket science just basic small business management and it is becoming somewhat boring reading the daily plight of overspending non league football Clubs.
Or should we be more sympathetic and set up a just giving page for them thus allowing the almost instant signing of a few ex football league players as we’ve seen that before haven’t we.

Apparently the guy that took over in November as the Chairman was the club’s treasurer who apparently said that he wasn’t aware of the full extent of their financial problems.
I think that tells you everything you need to know! Very damning.

From purely selfish point of view I hope Lowestoft survive and stay in our league next season.

1. It's another local game for me to add to the list along with Leiston, Needham Market and Kings Lynn (providing they don't go up)

2. They should have an even worse side next season and should be 6 easy points in the bag.

Having been to Lowestoft Town a few times in the past few season, they have had a fairly good sized friendly fan base and it's a decent little set up with some good facilities for the level they are at. (the club house is massive and the curry and chips were bloody tasty). However all the issues the club now finds itself in are all the making of the previous people in charge, overspending to get to a level that realistically the club would not be able to sustain (away travel cost, wage cost, match-day costs etc) .Sadly it is the true die-hard supports who again will be left to suffer the potential consequences.
